Goals from Jerome Thomas and Paul Green earn Leeds United a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town in the Championship.

Goals in either half from Jerome Thomas and Paul Green gave Leeds United a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Elland Road in the Championship.

The hosts went ahead when Thomas got the final touch from a corner in the first half, before he set up Green to smash home the second after the break.

The win moves Leeds up to 12th in the Championship, while Ipswich remain in 20th.

The first chance of the game fell to the home side, as Paul Green flicked the ball into the box, before El-Hadji Diouf was denied by the quick reactions of Stephen Henderson.

However, the hosts managed to find a breakthrough midway through the first half, as Diouf's corner was headed by Luciano Becchio before being flicked in by Jerome Thomas.

Leeds nearly doubled their lead just moments later, but David Norris's header was cleared off the line by Aaron Cresswell.

The visitors failed to create many chances in the first half but went close through Carlos Edwards, who forced Paddy Kenny into making a good block when he drilled in a low shot a few minutes before the interval.

Leeds started on the front foot in the second half, with Henderson forced into making a terrific save from a Becchio header.

However, the hosts doubled their lead with 20 minutes left to play, as Thomas turned provider for Green to slam the ball into the back of the net for 2-0.

Leeds keeper Kenny maintained his side's two-goal lead after making a fine stop from point-blank range from substitute Michael Chopra.

The hosts held on to secure all three points at Elland Road.
