Viktor Fischer double downs Heerenveen as Ajax go four points clear

Ajax put five past Heerenveen, including a Viktor Fischer brace, to send Frank de Boer's side four points clear the top of the Eredivisie.

Frank de Boer's Ajax side have moved four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie with a 5-2 victory over Heerenveen, which included a brace from Viktor Fischer.

Fischer opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clean strike past Heerenveen keeper Erwin Mulder, following a combination with captain Davy Klaassen.

Fischer then turned provider as he fed Arkadiusz Milik, who turned on the ball before firing home after 23 minutes to give Ajax a two-goal advantage.

Amin Younes made it a three-goal lead with half hour gone as his solo run ended with Mulder being beaten once more.

Mitchell te Vrede, Heerenveen's top scorer, added his sixth of the league season immediately after the restart to hand the visitors a lifeline.

Fischer put paid to Heerenveen's hopes soon after with his second of the evening, and seventh of the season, in the 54th minute.

Milik had the opportunity to record his brace from the penalty spot but put his effort well over Mulder's crossbar.

De Boer's side did add a fifth in the 73rd minute as Klaassen netted after being supplied by Milik.

The captain's goal equalled the club record of scoring at least five Eredivisie goals in three consecutive home games.

Doubles were the order of the day as Te Vrede struck again in the 79th minute to add an air of respectability to the scoreline.

Ajax now move four points ahead of closest rivals PSV Eindhoven, who won 1-0 away to Vitesse, at the top of the league table.
