Crystal Palace trigger their option to make Jean-Philippe Mateta's loan move from Mainz permanent, with the striker signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Crystal Palace have triggered their option to make Jean-Philippe Mateta's loan move from Mainz 05 permanent.

Mateta joined the Eagles on an 18-month loan deal last January, with that agreement including a clause which allowed Palace to make the switch permanent.

Patrick Vieira's side have now triggered that option, signing Mateta on a four-and-a-half-year deal which will keep him at the club until June 2026.

"I'm happy. I want to say thank you to the gaffer, he trusted in me. And [thank you to] Dougie [Freedman], the chairman [Steve Parish] and the team and the fans also, and my family," Mateta told the club's official website.

"We are delighted to secure the long-term future of Jean-Philippe. Coming to a new country, a new team and a new league is not easy and JP worked incredibly hard to get and then take his opportunities," chairman Steve Parish added.

"He really has shown the aptitude, attitude and dedication we look for along with his natural footballing ability. I'm looking forward to seeing much more of him in a Palace shirt."

Mateta has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Crystal Palace since joining.
