Tony Popovic free to join Crystal Palace

Western Sydney Wanderers chairman Paul Lederer says that he will not stand in Tony Popovic's way if Crystal Palace choose him as their next manager.

Western Sydney Wanderers chairman Paul Lederer has stated that he will not stand in Tony Popovic's way if Crystal Palace choose him as their next manager.

The 41-year-old, who spent six years with the Eagles as a player and a year as assistant to former boss Dougie Freedman, has been linked with a return to Selhurst Park following the sacking of Neil Warnock on Saturday.

Popovic has reportedly attracted the attention of Palace after winning the A-League title with the Wanderers and guiding them to the AFC Champions League crown.

When asked about the possibility of Popovic rejoining Palace, Lederer told Sky Sports News: "I'm absolutely sure we'll be discussing it. It could be as early as Tuesday or the day after, we'll certainly be discussing it.

"Absolutely. If he was bettering himself and went to the EPL and he got the top job, I'd be wishing him all the best and good luck to him."

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has also been linked with the Palace job.
