Roman Abramovich has reportedly not put Chelsea up for sale despite handing over his "stewardship" of the club to the Blues' charitable foundation.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has not put the club up for sale despite relinquishing his control of the Blues, according to a report.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the orders of president Vladimir Putin, Abramovich's Chelsea future has suddenly been plunged into uncertainty amid the fear of financial sanctions.

Abramovich announced on Saturday evening that he was giving up his "stewardship" of the club to Chelsea's charitable foundation, with the UK Government being called upon to freeze the 55-year-old's assets.

While fans have called for clarity on Abramovich's statement, The Sun reports that Abramovich is still the owner of the European champions and has no intention of selling the club.

The report adds that Abramovich also does not expect to be hit with any sanctions and will still help the club to fund future transfers if that remains the case.

The Russian oligarch has witnessed Chelsea collect 19 major trophies since taking control of the club in the summer of 2003, and his announcement comes less than 24 hours before the Blues take on Liverpool in the final of the 2021-22 EFL Cup final.
