Chelsea's board allegedly have differing views when it comes to the future of first-team manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea's board reportedly have differing views when it comes to the future of first-team manager Mauricio Pochettino, with the Argentine's position at the club remaining the subject of much speculation.

It has been a testing campaign for the Blues, but a run of four straight Premier League victories has moved them into sixth position in the Premier League table.

Chelsea only need a point at home to Bournemouth on the final matchday of the 2023-24 campaign to guarantee European football for next season, while they could still finish above Tottenham Hotspur in fifth.

The London club were 2-1 winners over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening, while Newcastle United, who had been in sixth, were beaten 3-2 by Manchester United.

While fifth or sixth would not be considered a successful campaign for a team of Chelsea's standing, it would represent progress, having finished down in 12th last term.

Pochettino's future as Chelsea boss 'remains unclear'

According to The Guardian, Chelsea's board will conduct an end-of-season review following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign, with a decision set to be made on Pochettino's future.

The report claims that the Argentine 'has the support of key figures' at Stamford Bridge, with a number of prominent individuals at the club keen to keep hold of him.

However, it is understood that some board members 'are undecided' whether Pochettino is the right man to continue to lead the club through a transitional period.

The head coach is said to have the full support of the dressing room, and it is thought that he will be in charge of the club heading into the 2024-25 campaign despite the speculation surrounding his future.

Boehly has hinted at Pochettino stay

Chelsea's co-owner Todd Boehly recently indicated that Pochettino will remain in charge of the club this summer.

At the Qatar Economic Forum, Boehly said: "The number one thing is you have got to be patient. You are putting something together and expecting it to come together really quickly, but the reality is anything really good takes a little bit of time. Patience was always a thought for us."

Pochettino took charge of Chelsea last July, and he boasts a record of 25 wins, 11 draws and 14 defeats from his 50 matches at the helm.

Since suffering a 5-0 loss at Arsenal on April 23, the Blues have taken 13 from the last 15 points available in England's top flight, with Cole Palmer proving to be key to their resurgence.

Palmer was again on the scoresheet against Brighton on Wednesday to take him onto 22 goals in the Premier League during the 2023-24 campaign.
