Bundesliga week 27 predictions including Hertha Berlin vs. Union Berlin

Sports Mole provides score predictions for all of this weekend's Bundesliga action, including the derby between Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin.

Hertha Berlin vs. Union Berlin (Friday, 7.30pm)

Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin will face off at the Olympiastadion on Friday evening in just the second ever Bundesliga meeting between the sides.

The city rivals are separated by only one point heading into the match, with both teams still in outside contention of securing European football for next season.

We say: Hertha Berlin 1-1 Union Berlin

Not a great deal can be read into the form book prior to the coronavirus-enforced shutdown, but Hertha looked far better than Union in the two sides' first game back last weekend. There has been little to separate the Berlin rivals all season, though, and we are expecting them to cancel each other out on Friday.

Freiburg vs. Werder Bremen (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Freiburg will be looking to pile more misery on Werder Bremen when the two teams lock horns at Schwarzwald-Stadion in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are currently seventh in the table, just two points off sixth-placed Wolfsburg, while struggling Bremen sit 17th with just 18 points to show from their 25 league matches this term.

We say: Freiburg 2-0 Werder Bremen

Bremen have really struggled for form this season, and it is difficult to imagine Kohfeldt's team picking up all three points this weekend. Freiburg impressed against Leipzig last time out, and we expect the hosts to put their 11th league victory of the campaign on the board in relatively routine fashion.

SC Paderborn vs. Hoffenheim (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Hoffenheim manager Alfred Schreuder pictured in July 2019© Reuters

SC Paderborn's search for their first Bundesliga victory since the end of January will continue on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Hoffenheim to Benteler-Arena.

The hosts are currently bottom of Germany's top flight with just 17 points to show from their 26 matches this season, while Hoffenheim occupy ninth, just four points off the top six.

We say: Paderborn 0-1 Hoffenheim

Neither side will enter the match in a confident mood, but Hoffenheim's away form this season has actually been quite strong. Paderborn, on the other hand, have the second-worst home record in the division. We are not expecting many goals on Saturday afternoon but expect the visitors to pick up all three points.

Borussia M'bach vs. B. Leverkusen (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Both Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to build on impressive victories last time out when they lock horns in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.

Gladbach returned to action with a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, while Leverkusen thumped Werder Bremen 4-1 away from home on Monday night.

We say: Gladbach 1-1 Leverkusen

This is a tough game to call for a number of reasons. Both teams will be full of confidence following their results last weekend, while the pair had been in strong form before the league was halted. All things considered, we are finding it hard to separate them and have therefore tipped a low-scoring draw.

Wolfsburg vs. Dortmund (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to keep the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich when they make the trip to Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams made a winning return to league action last weekend, with Dortmund remaining within four points of top spot and Wolfsburg moving up to sixth.

We say: Wolfsburg 0-2 Borussia Dortmund

Wolfsburg may be in decent form, but they have a terrible recent record against Dortmund. In fact, the hosts have failed to score in any of their last six league encounters with BVB, so we are expecting this to end only one way.

Bayern vs. Frankfurt (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Bayern Munich will be looking to move another step closer to winning an eighth Bundesliga title on the spin when they play host to Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

The in-form hosts made a winning return to action last week to remain four points clear at the top, while Frankfurt fell to another defeat and are not yet safe from the drop.

We say: Bayern Munich 3-0 Eintracht Frankfurt

Bayern have won five Bundesliga games in a row, whereas Frankfurt have lost each of their last four. The Eagles may have come out on top in the reverse fixture, but they are without a point in 10 visits to the Allianz Arena and we are not expecting that run to end this weekend.

Schalke vs. Augsburg (Sunday, 12.30pm)

Schalke head coach David Wagner pictured on May 16, 2020© Reuters

Two teams in desperate need of a result in the Bundesliga will lock horns at Veltins-Arena on Sunday afternoon as Schalke 04 welcome relegation-threatened Augsburg.

Schalke were thumped 4-0 by Borussia Dortmund on their return to action last weekend, while Augsburg lost 2-1 at home to Wolfsburg as Germany's top flight resumed after more than two months without a game.

We say: Schalke 1-1 Augsburg

Both sides will feel that they can cause the other team problems in the final third of the field, and it should be a fascinating match on Sunday afternoon. Augsburg have not beaten Schalke since December 2015 but two of their last three Bundesliga meetings have finished level, and we fancy a low-scoring draw here.

Mainz 05 vs. RB Leipzig (Sunday, 2.30pm)

RB Leipzig will be looking to record their first Bundesliga victory since February 22 when they travel to a struggling Mainz 05 outfit on Sunday afternoon.

Julian Nagelsmann's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg on their return to action last weekend, while Mainz picked up a point in a 2-2 draw at Koln as Germany's top flight resumed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

We say: Mainz 0-2 Leipzig

Leipzig will be determined to return to winning ways after the disappointment of last weekend, and we are finding it difficult to back against the visitors. Werner is due a goal after a slightly disappointing run of form by his own high standards, and we fancy the Germany international to score in a 2-0 success.

FC Koln vs. Dusseldorf (Sunday, 5pm)

FC Koln manager Markus Gisdol pictured in May 2020© Reuters

FC Koln play host to Fortuna Dusseldorf on Sunday evening looking for the win which may move the club into the top half of the Bundesliga standings.

Meanwhile, Dusseldorf make the trip to the RheinEnergieSTADION with a five-point advantage over the bottom two, a consequence of drawing with last-placed Paderborn last weekend.

We say: FC Koln 1-1 Fortuna Dusseldorf

With both teams having posted a draw on their return to action, we feel that a second successive share of the spoils could be on the cards this weekend. Although Koln are the marginal favourites, being held by Mainz on familiar territory will not fill them with any extra belief ahead of this contest.
