Paul Lambert: 'Prince William won't be watching Match of the Day tonight'

Paul Lambert jokes that Prince William won't be watching Match of the Day this evening following Aston Villa's drab 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has suggested that today's home encounter with Sunderland was, in hindsight, not the most "ideal" game for Prince William to attend Villa Park.

The Duke of Cambridge - a lifelong Villan - watched from the stands as an uneventful match ended goalless - a result that does little to aid either team in their quest to rise up the Premier League table.

"I don't think he'll watch Match of the Day," the Scot joked to reporters.

"It's the first time since I've been manager here that he's been here, which is a great thing, but it probably wasn't an ideal game for him to come and watch.

"I don't think we deserved to win the game, I don't think we deserved to lose it."

A point did move Villa above Swansea City into 10th place.
