Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that the Gunners can challenge for the Premier League title following Sunday's 3-2 victory over Liverpool.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that the Gunners will be involved in the Premier League title race this season.

Despite giving up the lead on two occasions, Arsenal clinched a narrow 3-2 victory over Liverpool thanks to Gabriel Martinelli's opener and a Bukayo Saka brace.

The three points helped the Gunners reclaim top spot, ensuring that they finish the weekend one point clear of defending champions Manchester City.

Following Sunday's victory, Merson indicated that he believes Arsenal can challenge Pep Guardiola's side for the Premier League title.

Merson told Sky Sports: "I thought they were outstanding. I thought they started really well, got out of the blocks quickly and scored early doors.

"I thought Arsenal's management of the game [after they scored the third] was phenomenal. Once they were 3-2 up there was never really a threat from Liverpool.

"And you are talking about a very young, inexperienced team at the end there. I was so impressed. They are top of the league, another game gone, they just need to keep on doing what they are doing.

"I have never seen this place like this [or at least] not for a long, long, time. It's absolutely buzzing.

"As long as they stay on the coat tails of Manchester City, you never know. We've seen Leicester win the Premier League [in the past]."

Arsenal will travel to Norway for a Europa League meeting with Bodo/Glimt in midweek before they face Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.
