AC Milan cruise past sorry Lazio

AC Milan move up to fifth in Serie A by recording a comfortable 3-1 win over rivals Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

AC Milan extended their winning run in Serie A to three matches by easing to a 3-1 victory over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

The visitors made a positive start to the match and Giacomo Bonaventura came close early on with a powerful strike that went inches over the bar.

Milan continued to pose more of a threat and in the 25th minute they took the lead when Federico Marchetti spilled Alessio Cerci's low shot into the path of Andrea Bertolacci, who made no mistake to slot in the rebound from close range.

They almost doubled their advantage 12 minutes later as Cerci latched on to Riccardo Montolivo's long ball over the top, before curling a strike beyond the keeper and against the far post.

Milan were then dealt a blow at the start of the second half when Alex went off injured, but his replacement Philippe Mexes made an immediate impact by heading in from Bonaventura's free kick to double the visitors' lead.

Ricardo Kishna soon thought that he had pulled a goal back for Lazio, but after turning in a rebound from inside the six-yard box his effort was ruled out for offside.

It soon got even worse for the hosts, as Carlos Bacca raced on to Bonaventura's threaded pass, before rounding Marchetti and sliding into the unguarded net to open up a three-goal lead for Milan.

Kishna did manage to pull a goal back for the Rome outfit with a powerful drive that beat Gianluigi Donnarumma at his near post, but it proved to be the final action, as Milan held on to move up to fifth in the table.
