Diego Maradona is among a number of former footballers who took part in Pope Francis's 'Match for Peace' exhibition game in Rome.

Argentina legend Diego Maradona was among a number of famous figures from within football who took part in yesterday's 'Match for Peace' in Rome.

The exhibition game, which had the backing of Pope Francis, was created in a bid to raise support against the crisis in Gaza.

Maradona met the leader of the Roman Catholic church at the Vatican prior to the game, as did Alessandro Del Piero and Carlos Valderrama.

The two teams represented the co-hosts - Pupi Foundation, which is a charity founded by former Inter Milan midfielder Javier Zanetti and Scholas Occurentes, an educational initiative created by the Pope.

The match, which Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger attended, ended 6-3 in PUPI's favour.
