Football fan 'dies amid fighting between ultras and police'

A football supporter reportedly dies during an altercation between fans and police ahead of a match in Argentina.

A football fan has reportedly died following a fight between supporters and police ahead of a clash in Argentina.

Estudiantes' match against Lanus was abandoned at half time when it had become known that a supporter had lost their life during an altercation outside of the stadium before kickoff.

"The police reported a Lanus supporter had died and in the face of this situation it was necessary to suspend the match," The Sun quotes Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi as saying. "It was a unanimous decision by both clubs. It was for humanitarian reasons."

A second fan is said to have been left seriously injured by the incident.
