Mansfield Town report racist abuse allegation towards Krystian Pearce

Mansfield Town confirm that they have reported an allegation of racist abuse towards Krystian Pearce following their pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

Mansfield Town have reported an allegation of racist abuse towards captain Krystian Pearce following the club's pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

The match, which took place at Field Mill last Tuesday and saw the Stags run out 2-1 winners, is already under investigation by the Football Association after both sides were involved in a late mass brawl.

Mansfield confirmed in a statement that they have been in touch with both the FA and Nottinghamshire Police regarding the alleged incident, as well as liaising with anti-racism organisation Kick It Out.

"The allegation made by Mansfield Town captain Krystian Pearce is extremely serious and we have offered our support to the club," Kick It Out wrote on Twitter. "It is vital that the incident is thoroughly investigated by the Police and FA."

Mansfield boss David Flitcroft stated after the game that something had "riled" Pearce, leading to his substitution for fear that "with him looking so wound up, he might do the wrong thing".
