Wolverhampton Wanderers announce that defender Christian Marques has departed Molineux to sign a permanent deal with Swiss side Yverdon Sport.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that defender Christian Marques has joined Yverdon Sport.

When Marques arrived at Molineux in 2019, there was hope that the centre-back would eventually become an option for the first team.

He had spent time with the academy setup at Grasshopper Zurich, as well as representing Switzerland at a number of different levels of youth football.

However, now 20 years of age, Marques has rarely threatened to earn senior game time at Wolves, being restricted to eight occasions when he was an unused substitute.

As a result, the bulk of his time at Wolves has been spent playing Under-18 and Under-21 football, scoring five times from 70 appearances in all competitions.

A loan stint at Portuguese side Belenenses failed to deliver the desired first-team action, Marques not playing a single minute of first-team football.

More game time came with Forest Green Rovers in League One last season, with a total of 11 starts and two substitute outings coming until the middle of November.

Since then, though, Marques has been back in Wolves' reserve side, and the decision has been made to allow him to take an opportunity back in Switzerland.

Yverdon Sport compete in the top flight, currently occupying seventh position in the table after collecting eight points from their opening six fixtures.

Last season's second-tier champions sit four points above Grasshopper, who are effectively Wolves' feeder team, but it was alleged over the summer that owners Fosun International are open to a sale.
