Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm Walter Zenga departure

Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm that they have sacked head coach Walter Zenga.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that they have terminated the contract of head coach Walter Zenga.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports emerged that the Italian had been removed from his position at Molineux after Wolves recorded just one point from their last five Championship fixtures.

The Black Country outfit sit in 18th position in the table after their poor recent run, and it has resulted in Fosun International sacking Zenga after just 87 days in charge.

A club statement read: "Wolves have announced that Walter Zenga's contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

"Stefano Cusin, Assistant Head Coach has also left the club.

"Wolves will be conducting a thorough process to recruit a new head coach and won't be revealing any timescales associated with this important task.

"Rob Edwards, first-team coach, has been placed in interim charge of the first team, supported by Under-23s coach, Scott Sellars.

"The club would like to extend their thanks and best wishes to Walter and Stefano for their contribution to Wolves during the season so far.

"Wolves will be making no further comment at this stage."

Former England manager Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva - who has previously coached Olympiacos - are currently regarded as the favourites to be named as Zenga's successor.
