West Ham United's Nikica Jelavic looking to seize opportunity

West Ham United striker Nikica Jelavic admits that he is looking to use the club's injury crisis to force his way into the starting lineup.

West Ham United striker Nikica Jelavic has revealed that he is determined to force his way into the starting lineup under Slaven Bilic.

The 30-year-old has been limited to seven appearances from the bench for the Hammers since his move from Hull City and has yet to open his scoring account.

However, Jelavic has admitted that he will be looking to take his chance to impress following injuries to Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia and Dimitri Payet.

He told the club's official website: "We have a very good squad and some very good strikers here so you have to earn your place in the team, I'm giving 100% every training session so hopefully I am going to get my chance.

"Definitely, competition for places is very important, it's good to have a couple of good players in every position, it helps you to push yourself and put in 100% every session and try and impress the manager."

West Ham play Stoke City in the Premier League at Upton Park on Saturday.
