Pepe Mel aide leaves West Bromwich Albion

Dave McDonough, who was considered a close aide to West Bromwich Albion head coach Pepe Mel, has left the Premier League club.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Pepe Mel has reportedly suffered a blow in his attempts to remain at The Hawthorns after aide Dave McDonough left the club.

McDonough, who was the director of technical performance and scouting at the Premier League side, was considered to be a major part of Mel's regime at the Black Country outfit, and his departure will raise further questions over the future of the Spaniard.

It had been reported earlier this week that the former Real Betis boss was close to being removed from his position, before the club issued a statement on Tuesday evening reiterating their unity for the remainder of the season.

However, according to the Express & Star, senior players at the club had been growing concerned about the influence of McDonough, who played a significant role in bringing Mel to West Brom, and his exit could strengthen the position of sporting and technical director Richard Garlick.

Mel is yet to win in six matches in charge of the Baggies.
