Video: Top 5 goals by goalkeepers

In the wake of Andres Palop's switch to Bayer Leverkusen, Sports Mole looks over five of the best goals that have been scored by goalkeepers.

The experienced Andres Palop brought an end to his eight-year stay with Sevilla earlier today by agreeing a switch to German club Bayer Leverkusen on a 12-month contract.

While the 39-year-old made numerous saves for Los Rojiblancos, perhaps his best moment came back in 2007 when he scored a header in time added on against Shakhtar Donetsk, which forced the UEFA Cup tie into extra time. Sevilla eventually went on to win the match 3-2 and ended up winning the competition for a second time.

In tribute to Palop, Sports Mole has selected five of the best goals that have been scored by goalkeepers, starting with the veteran's effort.

Andres Palop

Jose Luis Chilavert - Velez Sarsfield vs. River Plate

Now retired, Paraguayan Chilavert scored 67 goals for club and country. Although he was a penalty taker, not all of his goals came from the spot - proved by his effort against Argentine side River Plate.

Jimmy Glass - Carlisle United vs. Plymouth Argyle

Carlisle fans will argue that no goalkeeper has scored a more important goal than Glass. After all, his volley on the final day of the campaign kept his side in the Football League.

Paul Robinson - Leeds United vs. Swindon Town

With Leeds heading out of the League Cup, Robinson probably made a run forward more in hope than expectation. However, the Swindon defence failed to pick him out and he glanced a header into the far corner.

Peter Schmeichel - Wimbledon vs. Manchester United

Okay, this shouldn't really be included because Schmeichel's goal was correctly ruled out for a clear offside. The finish from the 'The Great Dane' is something to admire, though.
