Luis Suarez makes final Uruguay squad for World Cup

Luis Suarez is included in Uruguay's final 23-man squad for the World Cup despite concerns over whether he will recover from knee surgery in time.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been included in Uruguay's final 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup despite concerns over his fitness.

Suarez underwent an operation on his knee earlier this month and faces a race against time to be fit for his side's opening group game against Costa Rica on June 14.

Uruguay remain optimistic that the 2013-14 PFA and FWA Player of the Year will recover in time to participate in all of their matches in Brazil, and his inclusion in the final squad represents their faith.

Meanwhile, manager Oscar Tabarez has cut two players from his initial 25-man squad, with midfielder Sebastian Eguren and defender Alejandro Silva the men to miss out.

Uruguay squad for the World Cup:

Goalkeeper: Fernando Muslera, Martin Silva, Rodrigo Munoz

Defenders: Diego Lugano, Diego Godin, Jose Maria Gimenez, Martin Caceres, Maximiliano Pereira, Jorge Fucile, Sebastian Coates;

Midfielders: Egidio Arevalo-Rios, Walter Gargano, Diego Perez, Alvaro Gonzalez, Alvaro Pereira, Cristian Rodriguez, Gaston Ramirez, Nicolas Lodeiro;

Forwards: Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan, Abel Hernandez, Christian Stuani.
