Mark Hughes confident of Asmir Begovic stay

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is confident that the club can come to a long-term agreement with keeper Asmir Begovic to ensure his stay at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is optimistic that the club will be able to retain the services of keeper Asmir Begovic for the foreseeable future.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been linked with moves to several teams across Europe, including Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

However, Hughes is adamant that he wants to keep the 27-year-old at the club and is confident that the two parties can come to an agreement on a new deal.

He told reporters: "We want to be a team that is consistently in the top 10. To be able to do that you need key players in key areas of the field and obviously goalkeeper is a key position in any good team and Asmir has been exceptional for us for a long time now.

"We're talking and those talks are going to be concluded in the summer. Hopefully they are going to be concluded in our favour."

Begovic joined Stoke in 2010 from Portsmouth.
