Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic during the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic during the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2020-21 campaign for his Italian club, scoring 21 times in 37 Serie A appearances, while he has netted five goals in four outings in all competitions this term.

Romano has revealed that both Tottenham and Atletico Madrid wanted the Serbia international over the summer but were ultimately left frustrated when the window closed.

"Tottenham were interested this summer, Atletico Madrid offered €60m (£51.2m) plus % on future sale: Fiorentina and Vlahovic with his agent said no. New contract talks are currently underway," Romano posted on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano said when questioned on the situation: "Vlahovic will extend his contract with us soon. I'm sure it's matter of time - talks are underway."

The forward, who has three goals in three Serie A outings this term, was also thought to be a target for Manchester City during the summer window.
