Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is unlikely to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier is not expected to leave the club before the 11pm transfer deadline, according to a report.

Throughout the summer, the Lilywhites have been open to offers for the 29-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

Dier was a regular fixture in the Spurs backline under Antonio Conte last term, and there were suggestions that he was in line for a new contract in North London.

However, Dier has since lost his place in the squad under Ange Postecoglou, who has not called him up for any of Tottenham's opening four matches of the new season.

Hoping to garner a nominal fee through a summer sale, Tottenham had apparently offered Dier to a plethora of clubs, including Celtic and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Rumours of a part-exchange deal with Fulham for Tosin Adarabioyo also circulated, while Burnley supposedly had a bid knocked back by Tottenham earlier this week.

With only a few hours to go before the window shuts, The Athletic claims that the former Sporting Lisbon youngster will likely remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the next few months at least.

In addition to the aforementioned clubs, the report adds that Spurs presented Nottingham Forest with the chance to take Dier during conversations over a move for attacker Brennan Johnson.

However, Johnson is now set to join Spurs in a deal worth circa £45m, while talks with Bournemouth over exchanging Dier and cash for Lloyd Kelly also led to nowhere.

A late loan deal has not been ruled out, but a departure on a free transfer in 2024 has long been regarded as the most likely outcome for Dier, who has wanted to stay and fight for his spot under Postecoglou.

The midfielder-turned-defender will celebrate his 10th anniversary as a Tottenham player next year, and he has registered 13 goals and 12 assists in 361 games for Spurs since joining in 2014.

Postecoglou has settled on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven as his first-choice central pairing, though, while Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies are also ahead of Dier in the pecking order.

Owing to his lack of minutes, the 29-year-old was left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad for their upcoming fixtures with Ukraine and Scotland in September, but Spurs have allowed a couple of other defenders to move on.

Dier's compatriot Japhet Tanganga has joined German side Augsburg on loan with a conditional obligation to buy, while Manchester United have signed Sergio Reguilon on a temporary basis for the 2023-24 season.

Tottenham return to Premier League action away to Burnley on Saturday, although Dier is not expected to be available for selection at Turf Moor due to a minor injury.
