Newcastle United ask caretaker manager Graeme Jones to take charge of the Magpies for two games after Steve Bruce's departure.

Newcastle United have made the decision for interim manager Graeme Jones to take charge of the Magpies for the next two Premier League games.

Following the successful takeover of the club by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the departure of Steve Bruce was heavily rumoured, and the club parted ways with the Englishman on Wednesday after a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the first game under the new hierarchy.

According to The Mirror, caretaker manager Jones, who acted as Bruce's assistant, will be trusted with two games at the helm, as the new owners do not want to rush their decision on a new permanent manager.

Jones is tasked with reversing the Magpies' fortunes, as they currently sit in 19th spot with just three points from eight Premier League matches, having failed to win any of those, and they first travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday before welcoming Champions League winners Chelsea to St. James' Park.

The 51-year-old's only other experience as a first-team manager came when he took charge of newly-promoted Luton Town in the Championship in the 2019-20 campaign, before departing when the season was brought to a halt by the COVID-19 outbreak.

While he will steer Newcastle through the coming weeks, director Amanda Staveley and her associates will continue to search for a long-term Bruce replacement, with former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca being heavily linked alongside the likes of Eddie Howe and Lucien Favre.
