Jose Mourinho: 'Wayne Rooney Manchester United role bad for England'

Jose Mourinho hints that Wayne Rooney should leave Manchester United for the sake of his England career.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that Wayne Rooney should leave Manchester United this summer in order to better his England career.

The 27-year-old, who has been linked with the likes of Arsenal as well as the Blues, handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford towards the end of last season, but has since been told by new boss David Moyes that he is needed as cover for Robin van Persie.

Mourinho believes that Rooney should head for the exit door of the Premier League champions in order to improve his status on the international scene.

"If Wayne is a second choice for Man United, then the national team will be affected," Mourinho told The Independent.

Rooney was reportedly left "angry and confused" by Moyes's comments.
