Ruben Amorim to be given summer transfer window 'war chest' as nine players linked with Manchester United exit

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen on strengthening his squad, and he may be able to make numerous changes by getting rid of up to nine players.

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to give Ruben Amorim a transfer budget of £200m if he sanctions the exits of numerous players from the club.

The United boss inherited a troubled team from previous boss Erik ten Hag in November, but the current manager has failed to turn his side's fortunes around, with the Red Devils 13th in the league.

Amorim's only two signings since arriving at Old Trafford have been centre-back Ayden Heaven and left wing-back Patrick Dorgu, but having lost nine and drawn five of his 20 top-flight games in charge, it is clear that he will need new signings to improve results.

However, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented a series of unpopular cost-cutting measures in response to the club's poor financial health, and that could lead to a policy of sell-to-buy in the summer.

The Mirror reports that Amorim will be given significant funds to reinvest in the squad should up to nine first-team stars leave in the upcoming transfer window.

Who could leave?

On loan forwards Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony have all been linked with exits, while Alejandro Garnacho's form and status as a home-grown player have reportedly made him a candidate to leave.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana has strongly been linked with a transfer away from England following a series of high-profile errors, and he could be sold to open a spot for Angers shot-stopper Yahia Fofana.

Midfielders Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Christian Eriksen have also been linked with departures from Old Trafford, though the latter could leave regardless of Amorim's plans given his contract expires in the summer.

Elsewhere, left-back Tyrell Malacia will reportedly be allowed to leave should a team match United's £10m valuation of him.

What positions do United need to make additions in?

United's need for a new goalkeeper is clear considering Onana has inspired little confidence in the backline, and his errors will likely continue to cost United valuable points.

Amorim will also certainly need to strengthen in attack, especially as his side have only managed to score 37 goals in the Premier League this term, making them the sixth-worst offensive team in the division.

It would be highly surprising if the Red Devils allowed Mainoo to leave, but if he was to head for the exit doors at Old Trafford, United would likely need to add a midfielder capable of acting as the team's conductor with the ball given Manuel Ugarte's strengths lie out of possession.
