Louis van Gaal heaps praise on Manchester United backline

Louis van Gaal hails the performance of his defenders following a seventh Premier League clean sheet of the season in yesterday's win at Queens Park Rangers.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has talked up the defensive organisation of his side following yesterday's clean sheet at Loftus Road.

The Red Devils shut out the opposition for the seventh time this season in the Premier League by picking up a 2-0 victory against Queens Park Rangers to maintain their top-four hopes.

United's backline came under fire in the early months of the season following a heavy 5-3 defeat at the hands of Leicester City, although since then the defence has looked more assured.

"The defensive organisation has been good from the beginning," the Dutchman told reporters. "We have only one match against Leicester City that was five goals and, because of that, we had bad average against us.

"But I think we have a very good defensive organisation so that is not a problem."

Van Gaal's side boast the fourth best defensive record in the division, with only Manchester City, Chelsea and Southampton conceding fewer goals this campaign.
