Manchester City's reward for defeating Liverpool on Thursday evening is a trip to face Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Manchester City have been handed a trip to Southampton in the draw for the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

On Thursday evening, City came through a thrilling tie with 2022 winners Liverpool, with Pep Guardiola's side prevailing by a 3-2 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spaniard has made a habit of winning this competition, lifting the trophy on four occasions, but City have been provided with a third successive all-Premier League clash versus the Saints.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's reward for defeating Burnley is another home fixture against EFL opposition, this time in the form of Charlton Athletic, who beat Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties.

Newcastle United and Leicester City will meet at St James' Park in what is arguably the tie of the round, while top-flight strugglers Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers will lock horns at the City Ground.

The four matches are scheduled to take place on the week commencing January 9.
