Eliaquim Mangala wary of new-manager effect against Aston Villa

Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala believes that his side will have to be at their best to cope with the reaction of Aston Villa in Remi Garde's first game.

Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala has warned his teammates over the new-manager effect that Remi Garde will provide Aston Villa with in their Premier League clash.

The Frenchman was appointed as the new boss of the Villans earlier this week, replacing the sacked Tim Sherwood following the Midlands club's poor start to the campaign.

Mangala has insisted that the Citizens will have to be at their best to overcome the test of Villa to retain their place at the top of the table.

He told the club's official website: "It will be a tough game. They have changed their manager now and all the players want to prove their quality - to prove they can play for the new manager.

"They fight to stay in the Premier League and we know that first game is always different. Maybe the mind-set has changed for them.

"If we play our game though, we have to win there. That's the most important thing for us. We must focus on our game."

City face Garde's men at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
