Liverpool reportedly trigger the £60m release clause of RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and are on the verge of completing a deal to sign the Hungary captain.

Liverpool have reportedly triggered the release clause of RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 22-year-old's deal at the Bundesliga outfit contains a release clause of €70m (£60.1m), but that expires at the end of June, with Leipzig able to command a higher fee from Saturday onwards.

Liverpool have rushed to get a deal done on the last day that the release clause is active, with the player understood to be keen on a switch to Anfield.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now claims that Jurgen Klopp's side have triggered the release clause before the deadline and are now on the verge of completing their second signing of the summer.

Personal terms between the Premier League club and the player have already been agreed, with a medical set to be booked before the deal is made official.

The agreement is the second piece of business done between the two clubs on Friday, after Fabio Carvalho went in the opposite direction to join Leipzig on loan for the 2023-24 campaign.

Hungary international Szoboszlai will become Liverpool's second major signing of the summer, following World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister through the door at Anfield.

Szoboszlai joined Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in 2021 and has scored 20 goals in 91 games for them across his two seasons in Germany.

The Hungary captain helped Leipzig to DFB-Pokal glory in both of his campaigns at the club, scoring in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt last month.
