Liverpool identify Olympiacos defender Ruben Semedo as a transfer target, according to a report.

Olympiacos defender Ruben Semedo has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool.

The Premier League champions are widely expected to sign a new centre-back in January, having lost both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk to serious knee injuries, potentially for the remainder of the season.

Fabinho is expected to return from an injury of his own after the international break, but the Reds are light at the back as they attempt to challenge on all fronts this term.

A number of players have been linked with the Merseyside giants in recent days, and according to Sic Noticias, Semedo has also now emerged as an option in the winter transfer window.

The 26-year-old, who has been capped on two occasions by Portugal, joined Olympiacos from Villarreal in 2019 and has made 55 appearances for the Greek giants in all competitions.

The defender still has three and a half years left to run on his contract with the Red and Whites.
