Ashley Cole hopeful of Los Angeles Galaxy stay

Ashley Cole admits that he is hopeful of signing a new deal with LA Galaxy in the MLS.

Veteran defender Ashley Cole has admitted that he is hopeful of signing a new deal to remain with Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS next season.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back will turn 37 in December and his current contract expires at the end of the year, meaning that his final game for the California outfit could come as soon as this weekend if he is not offered a new deal.

Cole has made 50 league appearances in his two seasons with Galaxy, but the current campaign has been a disaster and they sit rock bottom of the Western Conference.

"I want to be here. We're speaking. It's in their court with me," Cole told The Independent. "There's going to be a big change with the club and I think maybe it will happen next season. If I'm in those plans, we'll find out. Who knows? I'm 37 so maybe they want to look a little younger.

"I'm just disappointed we're losing, but I want to keep going until my legs actually give out. Thankfully they haven't given up just yet.

"My legs feel OK. Maybe the head feels a little bit tired, but I'm enjoying football whether we win or lose. I love the game. I only want to stop when my heart for it finishes."

Earlier this year Cole admitted that he was considering a return to English football with Birmingham City, then managed by Harry Redknapp.
