Chelsea 'switch attention to Caicedo after Ugarte decision'

Chelsea are reportedly focusing on signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, with transfer target Manuel Ugarte set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea have reportedly switched their attention to signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer as Manuel Ugarte looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ecuadorian was an integral part of the Seagulls side who responded well following the departure of Graham Potter early in the campaign, finishing the season in sixth under Roberto De Zerbi and securing European football for the first time in the club's history.

Despite needing to significantly reduce the size of their squad ahead of next season, the Blues are assessing their options in terms of potential incomings, with the central-midfield position highlighted as an area for improvement.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea will now focus on securing the services of Brighton's Caicedo with Sporting Lisbon's Ugarte deciding to join PSG this summer.

The report claims that both the Blues and the Parisians were willing to pay the Uruguayan's £52m release clause, however the Ligue 1 champions offered the player superior personal terms.

It is believed that Mauricio Pochettino's side have now backed away from talks for Ugarte and will target the signing of Caicedo, which could cost more than £80m.
