Fortuna Dusseldorf 0-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach play out a 0-0 draw in a less-than-thrilling Bundesliga contest.

Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach played out a 0-0 draw in a less-than-thrilling Bundesliga contest this evening.

The visitors started brightly with early chances falling to Martin Stranzl and Havard Nordtveit, but visiting goalkeeper Fabian Giefer was in solid form.

Dusseldorf threatened with long-range efforts from Robbie Kruse, before Monchengladbach tested Giefer again through Luuk de Jong.

The visitors saw more of the ball, but were unable to capitalise on their dominance before the referee called time on a scrappy first half.

The second half started much as the first ended, with Monchengladbach on top but struggling to convert.

Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango looked dangerous, and almost got his name on the scoresheet on 51 minutes, forcing Giefer into a save with long-range strike.

Dusseldorf had a few opportunities of their own through Dani Schahin and Robbie Kruse, neither of whom managed to hit the target.

Monchengladbach almost snatched it at the death through Alexander Ring, who found space inside the area but missed the target from close range.

It was more of the same until the final whistle, with both sides lacking that clinical touch in the final third in what is unlikely to go down as a Bundesliga classic.
