Lucas Torreira hints at Arsenal exit

Lucas Torreira admits that he would be open to a move away from Arsenal after struggling to nail down a regular first-team spot in the 2019-20 campaign.

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted that he would be open to an exit from North London after a turbulent 2019-20 campaign.

The 24-year-old became a fan favourite during his first few months at the Emirates Stadium in the 2018-19 season, but Torreira has struggled to make as much of an impact this time around.

Since the arrival of Mikel Arteta in the Arsenal dugout, Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos have often been preferred in midfield ahead of Torreira, who has been linked with a move back to Serie A with AC Milan in recent weeks.

The former Sampdoria man has insisted that he will not remain at Arsenal for the sake of it, telling radio station Sport 980: "I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously if I have to leave it will be for the best."

Arteta is expected to undertake a significant overhaul of his Gunners squad this summer, and Torreira could supposedly be one of the names heading for the exit door in order to raise funds.

Torino have also been credited with an interest in the Uruguay international, who is under contract at the Emirates until 2023.
