Barcelona will reportedly request for attackers Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho to take pay cuts from their contracts.

Barcelona will reportedly request for attackers Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho to take pay cuts from their contracts.

Club president Joan Laporta revealed last week that the La Liga giants are a staggering £1.15bn in debt and they are now desperate to reduce their wage bill.

According to Sport, Laporta will soon approach both Griezmann and Coutinho, who are two of the club's highest earners, to negotiate a potential wage drop.

Griezmann's current deal is believed to be worth in excess of £500,000 per week before tax, while Coutinho's earnings are slightly below this figure.

The report states that the Frenchman – who is determined to stay at Barcelona – is willing to take a reduction, though the situation involving his Brazilian teammate is more complicated as his future with the club remains uncertain.

Coutinho has been linked with a move to Arsenal, however the Gunners are no longer targeting the playmaker as they have completed the signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid.

Barcelona vice-captain Gerard Pique became the first player to agree to a reduced salary, which helped the club announce the registration of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj.
