Arsenal open discussions with Mesut Ozil over the possibility of buying out the remainder of the attacker's contract, according to a report.

Arsenal have reportedly opened discussions with Mesut Ozil over the possibility of buying out the remainder of the attacker's contract.

Ozil has not been involved for the Gunners during the 2020-21 campaign, having fallen out of favour at the club under head coach Mikel Arteta.

The 32-year-old's contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to run until the end of June, and it has been suggested that the former Germany international is prepared to see out the remainder of his deal before leaving on a free transfer during the summer.

However, according to TRT Spor, Arsenal have entered talks with Ozil over his remaining wages, with the capital giants keen to pay out the remainder of his £7.2m contract.

The report claims that the attacker is not prepared to accept a penny less than what he is owed, but Arteta's side are hopeful that a compromise can be reached this month.

Fenerbahce and DC United are thought to be favourites to sign the former Schalke 04 youngster.
