Robbie Savage: 'Arsenal players have had easy life for too long'

Robbie Savage believes that Arsenal's players have "had it easy for so long" under Arsene Wenger and need a disciplinarian manager to take over short-term next season.

Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has claimed that Arsenal's players have "had it easy for so long" under Arsene Wenger and need a disciplinarian manager to take over from the Frenchman in the short term.

The Gunners boss announced last week that he would be leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season following 22 years in the role.

Ahead of Arsenal's trip to Manchester United, Savage believes that the Gunners should bring in a manager in the Roberto Mancini or Antonio Conte mould who will get them out of their "comfort zone".

"I think Arsenal should employ a manager short-term who will really hammer these players - a Mancini or a Conte-type," the 43-year-old, who was at Man United as a youngster, told BBC Sport.

"They're in their comfort zone and there's no accountability when they concede goals. They've had it easy for so long and they need a manager who will rattle their cages and not allow them to settle for anything less than their best."

Wenger has been at the helm of Arsenal since 1996 but has not won the Premier League title since 2004.
