Fran Merida: 'No regrets over Arsenal exit'

Former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida insists that he has no regrets over leaving the club as a teenager, despite now playing for Segunda Division outfit Huesca.

Former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida has insisted that he has no regrets over leaving the club for Atletico Madrid as a youngster.

The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Barcelona in 2005, making 16 appearances for the club before moving to Atletico in 2010.

Merida now plies his trade with Segunda Division side Huesca following spells at Hercules and Brazilian outfit Atletico Paranaense, but the Spaniard believes that he would make the same career choices again if given the opportunity.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Sport, Merida said: "I lacked patience when I decided to return to Spain. But I would do it again. At the end I was 19 and I left the club with 17 games played with the first team.

"Look, I had Cesc, Nasri, Rosicky and Ramsey ahead. Great players, internationals all. I got the option of Atletico and I was delighted."

Merida has made 16 international appearances for Spain Under-21s, scoring six goals.
