Kel Allen has confirmed that she will be leaving Coronation Street later this year.
The actress has played Laura Neelan, the wayward mother of Kelly (Millie Gibson), on and off for the last two years - and will be back for one final stint in episodes airing from next week.
"Basically, Laura has found out she's got stomach cancer, and she's found out she's terminal," Allen told reporters.
"And within that time, she's done a lot of soul searching. And as a mum, it's taken something so tragic to happen to herself to make her realise what's important, and that her world is Kelly.
"She wants to make amends for all the wrongdoings. She doesn't know how much time she's got, and how long she's going to be around.
"But in all this time she's there, she wants to sort things out with her daughter, and she needs to get everything back on track."
Before she dies, Laura sets herself a mission to find her husband Rick - whom viewers know was murdered by Gary Windass (Mikey North) three years ago.
"She wants to find out what's gone on," Allen continued. "And all I can say is there's gonna be absolute fireworks, I've read some of the scenes, and it is mental – the ups and downs, and what's gonna come to fruition is epic.
"This is the reason I wanted to come back. So, most definitely it's going to be sitting on the edge of your seat moment. That's all I'm gonna say. It's an absolute belter."
Laura will return to Coronation Street to announce her news next week - but she gets far from the reaction she was expecting from her daughter. body check tags ::
