BBC, Sky agree Olympics coverage

BBC have agreed a deal with Sky to add 24 new channels dedicated to full coverage of the Olympic Games in London this summer.

The BBC have announced that they will launch 24 new channels dedicated to the London Olympic Games through Sky.

The agreement between the two broadcasters will allow Sky viewers to watch substantial coverage of this summer's Games with an additional BBC package on a non-exclusive basis.

A further 48 channels will be added to Sky's programme guide in order for viewers to watch live events during the Games, with the existing BBC channels remaining for the spectacle.

Stephen van Rooyen, managing director of Sky's sales and marketing group said: "The London Olympics is a huge event in 2012 and one that we are all looking forward to here at Sky.

"We believe that the best way to watch the Olympics is in glorious HD as it offers viewers the best possible viewing experience and, supported by Sky+, the flexibility of watching the action at a time that suits our customers.

"We're delighted that every single Sky home will have the opportunity to enjoy unprecedented coverage of the biggest UK sporting event in a generation."

The full HD coverage is expected to reach up to 10.3m users around the United Kingdom.
