Premier League Team of the Week - Riyad Mahrez, Edinson Cavani, Kevin De Bruyne

Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek 10, including Riyad Mahrez, Edinson Cavani and Kevin De Bruyne.

Just six points separate the top 11 teams in the Premier League table at the quarter-way point of the 2020-21 season.

Tottenham Hotspur still lead the way following their goalless draw with fellow high-flyers Chelsea on Sunday, but Liverpool are only behind on goal difference having also drawn away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Manchester City returned to form in emphatic fashion with another 5-0 drubbing of Burnley, while Manchester United launched a memorable second-half comeback to beat Southampton 3-2 from two goals down.

At the bottom, West Bromwich Albion beat Sheffield United to leave the Blades adrift at the foot of the table, while Fulham produced a shock 2-1 win at Leicester City on Monday night.

There were also victories for Newcastle United, Leeds United, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, the latter of whom condemned struggling Arsenal to a third successive home defeat.

Here, Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek 10.

There were a few standout goalkeeping displays this weekend, with Sam Johnstone particularly unfortunate to miss out while Karl Darlow, Hugo Lloris and Edouard Mendy were all there when required en route to clean sheets.

It is Leeds' Illan Meslier who gets the gloves for us, though, having made eight saves in total - including a couple of brilliant ones - to keep Everton at bay in an impressive 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

There was less competition at centre-back, where there were a number of solid displays but not much more. Angelo Ogbonna's goal for West Ham against Villa is enough for him to earn a place, while Conor Coady's role in leading Wolves past Arsenal - particularly after the serious injury suffered by Raul Jimenez - earns him a spot too.

Man City's latest five-star showing against Burnley sees them as the only club with more than one representative in this XI, and they provide both full-backs.

Kyle Walker helped himself to an assist in addition to the clean sheet to just about edge Serge Aurier and Matty Cash to a place at right-back, but it was much more clear-cut on the opposite flank with Benjamin Mendy scoring a superb goal in the rout.

Kevin De Bruyne was the architect of that goal and began to show the form which saw him named PFA Player of the Year last season, laying on two of the five goals in addition to hitting the woodwork himself.

It was Riyad Mahrez who was the star of that particular show, though, helping himself to a well-taken hat-trick as Man City put the Clarets to the sword.

Kalvin Phillips and Bruno Fernandes both deserve mentions in midfield, but it was impossible to leave out James Ward-Prowse after another set-piece masterclass against Manchester United.

The free-kick specialist may have ended up on the losing side at St Mary's, but his corner for the opener was perfect and his goal was even better as David de Gea simply could not claw it away.

Jack Grealish was another who ended up on the losing side, although he will wonder just how that was the case with Aston Villa missing a penalty and seeing a late equaliser controversially disallowed due to VAR. Grealish himself did get on the scoresheet with a fine effort, though, and was a constant threat for the visitors at West Ham.

There were a number of players pushing for the attacking spots in this week's team, and Jarrod Bowen, Daniel Podence, Callum Wilson, Gabriel Jesus, Ferran Torres, Marcus Rashford, Ademola Lookman and Pedro Neto are among those who deserve honourable mentions.

However, it is the rather unlikely duo of Joelinton and Edinson Cavani who lead the line in our good old-fashioned 4-4-2 formation.

Joelinton helped himself to a goal and an assist in the latter stages of Newcastle's last-gasp victory over Crystal Palace on Friday night, while Cavani was the inspiration behind Man United's stirring comeback with an assist and two very well-taken goals - including a late winner to complete the job.
