Everton manager Rafael Benitez plays down injury concerns around France left-back Lucas Digne after Tuesday's EFL Cup defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has played down his concerns over Lucas Digne, after the left-back came off with a suspected injury issue during Tuesday's EFL Cup clash with Queens Park Rangers.

The Frenchman started the game with the captain's armband on the left-hand side of a back four, and he drew his side level with a finish on the half-hour mark, before they went on to concede a second goal and then equalise through Andros Townsend.

The encounter went straight to a penalty shootout after the 2-2 draw in 90 minutes, and the Toffees were eventually dumped out, losing 8-7 as Tom Davies missed the only spot kick, but Benitez may have been more focussed on the fitness of Digne, who was withdrawn in the 80th minute.

Speaking after the game, the Spanish manager said: "I don't think it is very serious. We will see when we check tomorrow."

The French international has started in all five of the Toffees' Premier League games so far this campaign but now faces the task of recovering in time for Saturday's clash with basement side Norwich City at Goodison Park.
