Tim Allen is to reprise his role as Scott Calvin from The Santa Clause movies for a new Disney+ series.

The much-loved films followed Calvin, an ordinary man who was forced to take on the mantle of Santa after the previous Santa fell to his death off his roof.

Allen played the role in the original movie - released in 1994 - and two follow-ups, released in 2002 and 2006.

The new Disney+ series will catch up with Calvin, who is now preparing to retire from his Father Christmassy duties and appoint a replacement.

An official synopsis reads: "Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realising that he can't be Santa forever. He's starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he's got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole.

"With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole."

Filming on the show is set to begin in March, suggesting that it could be released on Disney+ in time for Christmas 2022. body check tags ::
