NBC has announced that This Is Us will come to an end next year at the conclusion of its sixth season.

The acclaimed drama, which stars Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore, follows the lives of a family through several time frames and is currently airing its fifth season.

Creator Dan Fogelman has long insisted that he wanted the show to have a defined end point and is already thought to have filmed some of the show's final scenes over the past few years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the announcement of the show's end will be made official on Friday when NBC reveals its 2021-22 schedule.

The final season is likely to run to around 18 episodes, enabling it to pass the 100-episode mark before it finishes.
