Jared Padalecki says that he is "on the mend" after being involved in a serious car crash earlier in the month.

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has revealed that he is "definitely on the mend" after being involved in a car crash earlier this month.

The 39-year-old had been due to appear at a fan convention with his former co-stars last weekend but pulled out following the incident, details of which were first revealed by his former on-screen brother Jensen Ackles.

"He was in a very bad car accident," Ackles told the convention. "He wasn't driving, he was in the passenger seat, and he's lucky to be alive."

Padalecki took to Twitter to reassure fans on Tuesday night, posting a picture of him and his daughter alongside the message: "Hey y'all! I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love. I'm definitely on the mend and hoping to return to filming later this week. I'm so lucky to have had the best care and be surrounded by people who love me. So grateful for everyone."

The actor can currently be seen in Walker, a reboot of the '90s drama Walker, Texas Ranger.
