It's A Sin exec producer Nicola Shindler has revealed that creator Russell T Davies had an idea in mind for a possible sequel series.

The one-season show - following a group of young friends during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s - was released last year and drew almost universal acclaim from critics, while Channel 4 reported a record 18.9 million views on All4 within the first six weeks.

Although the series ended definitively, Shindler told a BAFTA panel that Davies floated the idea of a follow-up featuring two of the surviving characters from the original.

In quotes reported by the Radio Times, she said: "There was a time when there were a lot of stories in the press about young boys being manipulated online to masturbate. They were being filmed and then they were being blackmailed, essentially.

"It was young teenage boys and it was something that Russell was really concerned about.

"It sounds like it's not related at all, except that he thought: 'What if you cut to the present day, and what if Jill and Roscoe are going out there, trying to stop the people who are doing this?'"

Following It's A Sin, Davies has returned to Doctor Who as showrunner and is currently working on its next series for 2023.
