Michael McIntyre will host the American version of The Wheel for NBC.

Michael McIntyre will be crossing the pond to host the upcoming US version of The Wheel, it has been announced.

The gameshow sees contestants answer questions for a cash prize, aided by a group of celebrities who are rotated into place via a giant spinning wheel.

The show was a Saturday night hit for BBC One late last year and has already been brought back for a second series, while NBC picked up the US rights to the format earlier this year.

"We're actually going to have Michael be our host," Susan Rovner, entertainment chairman at NBCU, revealed at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

"We're taking him over the pond! We did that because he's great, he's amazing and I don't know that there's someone [else] who could pull off every single thing that he does as the host."
