The next series of Married At First Sight UK will feature two same-sex couples, it has been confirmed.

The popular E4 reality show, which sees couples meet for the first time when they walk down the aisle, broke ground last series by introducing its first male-male pairing.

The couple in question - Matthew and Daniel - made an instant connection and are still together a year after the show ended.

In the new series, which is currently being filmed, the couples will include another male-male pairing and for the first time, two females will exchange vows.

The show's relationship expert Mel Schilling said: "We take the matchmaking process extremely seriously and when it comes to finding and matching our couples, it's so important to us that we find matches that are authentic and reflect the diversity of the society we live in.

"That's why I'm so thrilled that this year we're welcoming not just one, but two same sex couples into the fold.

"I'm really looking forward to you meeting them – they are firecrackers and sure to keep you entertained."

The new series will play out on E4 later this year.
