The first two members of the professional team on Gladiators have been revealed ahead of the show's return.

The BBC is rebooting the classic format - a staple of ITV's Saturday night schedules in the 1990s - for a new 11-part series this autumn.

Earlier this week, father-son duo Barney and Bradley Walsh were revealed as the new hosts, and now the new group of Gladiators is starting to take shape.

The first is Jodie Ounsley, aka 'Fury', a professional rugby player with "a power and passion for competition" who was named Deaf Sports Personality of The Year in 2020.

"Watching Gladiators growing up I was always in awe of their strength and power and now I am one!" she said. "I hope contenders are ready to feel the Fury."

The second is Zack George, who will go by the name 'Steel' due to his "unbreakable strength". The personal trainer ranks as one of the world's top CrossFit athletes and in 2020 he won the title of UK's Fittest Man.

"I was inspired by the Gladiators as a child, but never imagined I'd be physically fit enough to be considered a 'superhuman'!" he said. "I hope a new generation of fans will look up to me as their new strong, unbreakable hero, Steel."

Filming of the new series will take place next month in Sheffield ahead of a broadcast later this year on BBC One.
