The Big Narstie Show has been axed by Channel 4 after five series amid ongoing cost-cutting moves at the broadcaster.

The talkshow featured the rapper interviewing celeb guests alongside comedian Mo Gilligan and was billed as an "alternative" to traditional shows in the genre.

Channel 4 is in the process of seriously scaling back its budget for the foreseeable future due to an advertising downturn and has already dropped several shows, but a spokesperson insisted that the demise of The Big Narstie Show is purely coincidental.

"The decision not to recommission a sixth series of The Big Narstie Show is not part of our response to challenges in the advertising market," they said.

"We are immensely proud of the five series we have made of this innovative BAFTA-winning show but we have to look carefully at what we commission each year to make sure we continue to innovate and offer viewers a varied range of programming."

The broadcaster added that it is hoping to work with Big Narstie on other projects in the future. body check tags ::
